Adding Walk-in Competitors

Last updated June 2026  ·  3 min read

Someone shows up on tournament morning, cash in hand, asking to compete. Taikai App handles this with the Add Competitor form in the Tournament Manager — a direct entry path that skips the online funnel entirely.

Adding a walk-in

  • 1
Open the Competitors section In the Tournament Manager, go to Competitors and click Add Competitor.
  • 2
Fill in the competitor's details The form mirrors the online registration fields. Have the competitor (or their parent) spell out the details — this is what appears on brackets and certificates.
  • 3
Select events and payment status Check the events they're entering and set the payment status to reflect how they paid you — or select pay-later if they'll settle at check-in.
  • 4
Save The competitor is created, one credit is deducted, and division auto-assignment runs immediately.

How walk-ins differ from online registrations

  • Approved instantly — walk-ins skip the pending state. The credit is deducted at creation.
  • No online payment — you record the payment status yourself; Stripe is not involved.
  • Same divisions, same brackets — once created, a walk-in is indistinguishable from any other approved competitor.

Credits required: Adding a walk-in with a zero credit balance fails immediately. Keep a few spare credits for tournament day — walk-ins are the one registration you can't postpone approving.

Day-of tips

If a division's bracket has already been generated but has no recorded results, the system regenerates it automatically to include the new competitor. Brackets with results in them are protected and will not change — see Understanding the bracket guard. For bigger pre-tournament batches, CSV import is faster than one-by-one entry.
