Is tournament setup really free?
Yes. Sign up, create a tournament, build your divisions, configure scoring, invite your staff — all of it is free. This is permanent, not a beta promotion. You only pay when you approve competitors to compete.
What counts as a credit?
One credit equals one approved competitor registration. A competitor who registers but is not approved does not use a credit. If you approve a competitor and then unapprove them, the credit is returned to your balance instantly.
How does pricing work during beta?
Beta pricing is volume-discounted and applies to every director, not just founding directors: 10 credits for $10 ($1.00 each), 100 for $50 ($0.50 each), 300 for $120 ($0.40 each), and 600 for $150 ($0.25 each). These rates end when beta ends.
What is a founding director and how do I become one?
The first 50 tournament directors to purchase credits during beta automatically become founding directors. There's no separate application. Sign up during beta, purchase a credit pack, and if you're among the first 50 to do so, you're in.

What if I sign up during beta but I'm not in the first 50?
You still get beta rates while beta is running. When beta ends, you transition to standard pricing (from $2.00 per competitor, as low as $1.00) along with all new directors.
What happens to founding director pricing after beta ends?
Founding directors get 20% off whatever the current standard pricing is, indefinitely. If standard rates change in the future, founding directors continue to get 20% off the new rates.
Do credits expire?
No. Credits have no expiration date. If you buy a 300-credit Regional pack for a 200-competitor tournament and end up approving 100 competitors, the remaining 200 credits carry over to your next event.
What happens if I run out of credits mid-tournament?
You'll need to purchase additional credits before approving more competitors. Existing approved competitors are not affected. You can top up your balance at any time from your director account.
Can I use one credit package across multiple tournaments?
Yes. Your credit balance is shared across all tournaments you run. You don't buy credits per tournament — you buy credits for your account and they draw from a single pool.
Is there a monthly fee or subscription?
No. There is no subscription. You pay for credits when you need them. If you don't run a tournament for six months, you don't pay anything during those six months.
Do competitors pay anything?
No. Taikai App charges tournament directors, not competitors. What competitors pay to enter your tournament is entirely your decision — that's a separate entry fee you collect however you choose. Taikai does not take a cut of entry fees.
Are there limits during beta?
Yes. We run one tournament per date during beta so we can give every director full attention on event day. Apply early to reserve your date.
