Running Multiple Tatamis Simultaneously
Multiple mats is how a 300-competitor tournament finishes before dinner. Taikai App treats each tatami as an independent lane — its own division queue, its own operator scoreboard, its own display — while the manager keeps the full picture.
Assigning divisions to mats
In the Schedule section, every mat has a queue. Assign each division to a mat with the per-mat buttons, ordering the queue the way the day should run. Each entry carries an estimated duration so you can balance the load between mats.
Short on time? Auto-schedule distributes all unassigned divisions evenly across your mats in one click, and you adjust from there. The scheduler also keeps sibling kata and kumite divisions on the same tatami, so a competitor entered in both isn't called to two mats at once.
One scoreboard per mat
Each mat's operator opens the scoreboard for their mat and works through its queue. Scoreboard state is kept separately per mat, so five mats can run five matches simultaneously without touching each other.
Operator lock: a mat's scoreboard can only be driven by one operator at a time. If a second device tries to take over the same mat, it must take the lock explicitly — preventing two well-meaning volunteers from scoring the same match against each other.
Each mat also gets its own TV display and OBS overlay link, keyed by mat number.
Staffing each mat
Assign judges, officials, and staff to specific mats from the manager — each person's assignment shows up in their own view, and judges using the judge device see their mat assignments and take their seat digitally. The dashboard tracks readiness with checks like "3 of 4 mats have judges assigned," so gaps are visible before the first match, not after.
Keeping mats coordinated
- Live results everywhere — results recorded on any mat sync to the server immediately, so the manager view, brackets, and standings are always current across the venue.
- Minimum hardware per mat — one operator device (laptop or tablet) and optionally one display device. Staff accounts need only the operate scoreboard permission, not full manager access.
- Watch the queues — if one mat falls behind, move divisions between mat queues in the Schedule section; divisions whose brackets haven't started can move freely.
